Obtaining a student visa takes approximately 6 months.

If you wish to apply for a student visa, you will need to submit the necessary documents to the immigration office through our school.
It takes time to prepare the application documents and for the immigration authorities to review them.
If you wish to obtain a student visa, please contact our school as soon as possible regarding the necessary documents and procedures.

Application period

  • If the maximum number of applicants is reached, applications may be refused even when made during the application period. We recommend you apply as early as possible.

Eligibility

  1. Those who have completed (or are expected to have completed) 12 years of education.
  2. Those who have completed a secondary education course that qualifies them to be admitted to a university.
  3. Those who are recognized to have achieved the equivalent of 1 and 2 by our school.

About the student visa

Normally, foreign nationals need to obtain a "student visa" in order to study at a Japanese language school for more than one year.
The primary purpose for entering Japan on a student visa is to receive an education.
Therefore, while it is possible to work part-time by obtaining permission to engage in activities other than those permitted by your visa status, working is limited to 28 hours a week.
In addition, students are prohibited from working during their first three months in the country by ECC so as to allow them to focus on their studies.

Step 1

Step 2

Document screening and online interview

Prospective students are required to submit an entry sheet.Download documents
After screening the application documents and the entry sheet, an online interview will be conducted. After the interview, if it is determined that there no problems meeting the application requirements, the applicant will be required to pay a screening fee of 22,000 yen to apply for the "Certificate of Eligibility (COE)".

Submission of required documents and document review

Step 4

Application Approved

If there are no problems in the screening process at ECC, we will apply to the Immigration Bureau for a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) on behalf of the applicant.

Step 5

Immigration

The Immigration Bureau will review the application, and if there are no problems, a "Certificate of Eligibility (COE)" will be issued.

Step 6

Issuance of Certificate of Eligibility and payment

The ECC Japanese Language Institute will notify you of the issuance of the Certificate of Eligibility (COE) and send you an invoice for the course fee.

Step 7

Payment of course fees

You will be required to pay the course fees.

Step 8

Dormitory arrangement

After confirming the payment of tuition fees, we will send the applicant their "Admission Certificate" and "Certificate of Eligibility (COE)".

Step 9

Visa issuance

Applicants are required to prepare the documents necessary to obtain a student visa, such as the "Certificate of Eligibility (COE)" and "Admission Certificate", and apply for a visa by themselves at the Japanese embassy or consul general in their area of ​​residence.

Step 10

Notification of arrival date

After obtaining a student visa, please book a flight to Japan and inform the ECC Japanese Language Institute of your arrival flight and arrival time.

Step 11

Admission / course commencement

Please ensure that you have entered the country before classes commence and come to the school on the day designated by the ECC Japanese Language Institute.
Classes will start after an entrance ceremony and orientation.

Residents / short-term visitors

The enrollment procedures for those who do not need to obtain a student visa are simple.

  • Applications close when classes have reached their maximum capacity, so we encourage students to apply as quickly as possible.

Those who are planning to enter Japan on a temporary visitor visa or working holiday visa.

What is a temporary visitor visa?

A temporary visitor visa is a visa that allows you to stay in Japan for up to 90 days for the purposes of sightseeing or visiting acquaintances and relatives in Japan.
Temporary visitor visas are divided into visa-exempt countries/regions, where it is possible to come to Japan with only your passport, and visa-required countries/regions, where you need to obtain a visa before coming to Japan.
